Apr. 26th, 2006 05:09 pmI am currently thawing a piece of pork loin for use with Korean Death Spices, something I point out for readers who may have received similar products from Ben at the party welcoming him home from Good Korea.
ladyivy, I am looking at you. The Korean Death Spices have four English words, three of them useful, on the lable. The useful words are Pork Kalbi Marinade. The not-useful word is "Other" and it's near the recycling symbol which is in universal recycling symbol language (three arrows going clockwise in a triangle-ish shape).
Anyway, I shook and opened the the KDS. I smelled the stuff and it didn't smell too dangerous so then I stuck a finger in to taste it and determined that there wasn't much of the D in there. It's a nice, soy-ish marinade with some ginger and garlic and maybe some sesame oil and not a whole lot of heat to my way of thinking. There is a picture of apples on the lable, but since there is a picture of fried chicken on the Crisco can and Crisco contains absolutely no fried chicken, I didn't take that as a promise. There's some heat there, a lingering sort of warm-mouth thing, but it's not deadly.
I'm sorry for everyone who clicked to read about how flames came out of my mouth and stuff but this is a reality-based LJ and I don't make up things very damned often. It's a nice sauce. It should go quite well with pork. If I decide to perk it up with some red pepper, well, that's my business, innit?
Now, while the pork loin thaws, I'm going to crank up the HnG and see if I can figure out how many stitches out of 88 should go on the heel-flap needle if I'm supposed to be using "half" for the heel flap but there's a column of single purl stitches down the back of the heel and if I did "half" then the purl stitch would not be centered. It does not matter that eagles would be unable to see this at the stitches per inch I'm using on the dark, low-contrast yarn I am using. I would know it was like that and that knowing would bother me. If you feel that this seems like a really nonfunctional way to go through life, perhaps you should be aware that the mechanism responsible is the same mechanism that means I don't steal or cheat or kill even when I could get away with it. (Probably we should all think a happy thought for the Even if other people can't tell the difference, having things be right is still important mechanism because it keeps me from being a highly successful criminal sociopath.)
I believe we're going to opt for "43" being "half" of 88, but I'll feel better making that decision with the soothing clicking of go stones in the background. I wish I had an invisible ghost to follow me around and teach me a no-heavy-lifting way of earning a living that I just happened to be preternaturally good at.
