I have not yet been to see the new Harry Potter movie. This is because I am lame and because I avoid malls during the holiday shopping season. However, I read a delightful user summary of the new Harry Potter movie here. I can only hope that the actual movie is as much fun.

In other news, today I've been listening to the soothing sounds of gunfire since daybreak because Pennsylvania's deer season cranks up bright and early tomorrow morning and all the summer people are out shooting off their firearms in gleeful anticipation of that frabjous day. *sigh* I wish to hell they'd shoot does. But nooo, they can't possibly shoot does because it's unmanly and if they shoot does, there will be NO MORE DEER. Er. Not hardly. The summer people persist in thinking that there are not enough deer. I've got a seven-foot chickenwire fence around my yard says different. Down on Oregon Road and up on the mountain back of my house in state forest land, the state has erected Deer Exclusion Fencing so that the damned forest can regenerate. Inside the fences, there are baby trees. Outside the fences there are not baby trees except for striped maple which the deer will not eat. D'ya think that perhaps deer exclusion fences could maybe indicate that there are too many fucking deer? I mean, if the number of damn deer in the woods is so high and the browse pressure so intense that the DAMN TREES CANNOT GROW BACK, isn't that a sign that something's wrong?

Maybe I'm just stupid.

So do you do anything with the horses during hunting season? I know some people will put on bright blankets/coolers on theirs. We put an orange shirt on on goat one year (kinda deer coloured, had horns); can't remember if we did anything to the horses.

The horses reside on private property that is reasonably well-protected from errant city hunters by way of being infested by the property owners and their firearms during deer season. The property owners also own horses themselves and thus do not generally aim at the horses.
