Mar. 31st, 2005 06:10 pmToday I painted. I am apparently unable to paint anything without getting at least some paint on me. Oh, well.
In this morning's email, some guy Dave in a band from Australia emailed me to ask if the band could use one of my pictures for an album cover. I said they could go ahead as long as I got a free copy of the album. The guy wrote back and allowed as how that sounded fine. They are also giving me a photo credit, though I didn't ask for that, and I'm pretty tickled about the whole thing. I have no idea what the heck a soul/funk band should sound like, but I suppose I'll find out here directly. They said five weeks or so. I'll keep all ya'll posted on my delightful and unexpected foray into the fast-paced and exciting world of freelance photography.
All things considered, the internet is a wonderful boon for people doing publishing projects. There have to be millyuns and millyuns of reasonably good photographs out there taken by people-like-me who will give rights to use them for one-of-what-you're-making and a crediting line, and what with search engines and stuff, these pictures are out there to be found. This is a bad thing for people who take pictures for money, but it's an interesting, good thing for people like me.
