The weather was so nice that I visited the horses today after work. (The horses board with people who feed 'em and look at 'em every day to make sure they haven't injured themselves. The reason you don't hear me talk much about horse activities when the weather sucks is that I don't care for sucky weather and I pay someone to do basic horse maintenance so that I can play horse when I want to and when I don't want to, someone else does it for me. I physically look at the horses about three times from December through the end of March, mostly to reassure myself that they're still alive and looking well.) Anyway, Nick's mane was all twisty. It gets that way if I don't untangle it every two weeks or so. I straightened it out sometime in February, but haven't touched it since then. Back when I was in junior high, Sue Falvey used to say that horse's manes got that way because the elves were riding them. Given the amount of heartache involved in untwisting the twisties, I'll only credit this as true if it's the nasty elvish fair folk like in Pratchett. Good (Tolkien) elves would not do this to horses. It is the work of malignant spirits, or, more likely, the result of twisty hair fibers let to grow long and twist in the winter winds until they mat that way. *sigh* Then, come spring, there is untangling. I hit the worst of it today and I should be back later this week to fix the bits that still aren't all that. Nick was alarmingly friendly and social and stuff, which I guess was the result of all that ill use at the hands of malignant elves. Probably she's grateful to see someone who hasn't got that elvish look to 'em. Last I saw her, Lala mentioned that Lynn has a horse-riding function going on the weekend of the ninth which is apparently... er... next weekend. Not this one, but the one after. Right. I will have to make an effort to actually get on the horse before then so that I don't feel like I will die at the horse function.
