Mar. 20th, 2005 10:32 pmBusy day today. I drove to Baltimore, where I took in the opera (Marriage of Figaro, by that Mozart person) and an exhibit of horse portraits by George Stubb. Stubb was a Brit painter person who made a pretty good name for himself doing pictures of horses during the reasonably early days -- grandsons of the three foundation studs were racing -- of modern Thoroughbred racing. George Stubb knew his equine anatomy AND horse body language, so these were mostly quite good, expressive, realistic pictures of horses. The horse pictures were at the Walters, which is a smallish but quite nice art gallery conveniently located a block and a half from (a) the George Washington statue referenced in Moby Dick ("Great Washington, too, stands high aloft on his towering main-mast in Baltimore" -- Chapter 35, about two pages in) and (b) the Akbar, which has a cheap and tasty BOOFYET of Indian eats on Sundays, starting at noon. Guess where we had lunch?
I just got home and I'm tired and it's bedtime, so that's all you get for today. I'd write more but the workday starts early early and I need sleep.
