Afghan Accountability Pix
Feb. 15th, 2026 10:14 pmBusy weekend for the afghan.
Man, there are a lot of ends for me to weave in. That's gonna effing suck.
I made some 2-brown, 1-white marled (yes, that is a real word) yarn. That's a three-ply which I like better than two-ply. Is it exactly the same weight as the pre-spun brown yarn made by NYR's mom that she never used before she died? No. Is it close enough for an afghan that is sort of eyeballed and free-form to start with? Yes.

I like it. There shall also be some 2-white, 1-brown yarn in the offing, for color interest on this afghan project. I'll probably make a brown single and ply it with the ball of white 2-ply I already have (shown in an earlier AA post) which did not knit up at even remotely the same gauge as the brown pre-done yarn and thereby disappointed me. Watch this space for developments.
Heyyy, one of those balls of marled yarn looks pretty skimpy...
Yep. That's because I made a square.
At this point there are 5 brown squares and one dark-marled square. I finished up a brown square and did a whole entire dark-marled square since last we checked in with the afghan project. Here is a picture:

So many ends to weave in. I hate weaving in ends. I should probably get started on that proactively so that it is not a huge hurdle at the end. Probably there could also be washing and blocking finished squares to a single set of dimensions. Do I have a blocking board? No. Could I make one? *sigh* Yes, of course. Let me get on that, with a nice black sharpie outline to pin to.
Do I remember how many squares this afghan needs to be? Nary a clue. (Checks notes... 42 squares needed.) I am 1/7th of the way done making the squares. Yay, there should be an afghan for next winter.
I'll need 14 of each color (brown, 2w/1b, 2b/1w) for three shades of squares. I have 5 brown, so need 9 more brown. There's going to have to be a bunch more spinning, too. Happily, I'm getting better and faster about that too, practice is wonderful.
Current knitting television is Avatar: The Last Airbender (cartoon).
No work was accomplished on the purple scarf for my mom. I gotta get some time on that this week. I've made a note.
