Jun. 2nd, 2004 08:50 am八時半、ダーズリー氏は鞄を持ち、奥さんの頬にちょこっとキスして、それからダドリー坊やにもバイバイのキスをしようとしたが、しそこなった。

Around eight o'clock, Mr. Dursley, holding his briefcase, kissed his wife on the cheek and then failed at giving baby Dudley a bye-bye kiss. I'm okay with the translation, but I don't know if my diagram is doing right by ちょこっと, which my dictionary could not find. I also don't know if I really should stuff all of しようとした into the verb slot. Probably it's more like しよう (a noun) と (a conjunction) した (verb "to do"), but that wouldn't have fit in the diagram. Besides, I also did キスして as a verb when really it's a noun and a verb, I think. I am actually pretty okay with the mess for the second half of the compound predicate.
