I have completed the "book removal" portion of the program for the Book Room Project. It's not empty of books, but it is a lot emptier of books and the books that remain are books I most definitely want. (All the "Maybe" books were thrown away and yes, I did feel bad about that.) Maintaining focus and drive is a struggle for me because there is so much fucking shiny in the world and I tend to get distracted. *sigh*

Step 1: Cull the books so that there are only books I might REALISTICALLY want again. (DONE! I HAVE DONE THIS ONE! GO ME! There may be a celebratory margarita later this evening.)

Step 2: Remove the unwanted furniture (DONE! I HAVE DONE THIS ONE!)

Step 3: Replace fan heater with baseboard electric and programmable thermostat. (Not done yet, will require some drywall work to get the thermostat wire where I want it.)

I am on Step 3.

I have to select and order a single-pole line-voltage thermostat that is programmable. That's on the agenda for this evening. Then, I need to locate where the wiring comes in on the fan heater. I may need to put a junction box in the wall for the wire if it's in a horribly wrong location. We shall keep our fingers crossed on that front, we shall. Anyway, with the wire in to the heater located, I need to find the studs along the walls to where I want the thermostat and generate a path for the wire, likely under the outlets so that nobody will try to hang a picture through my thermostat wire.

The wire path will require me to cut out drywall panels (smallish ones) every other set of studs, drill holes through the now-exposed 2x4's, route wire up around doorframe and down other side to the light switch area or slightly higher, cut an access drywall panel, and mount a box for the thermostat install. With all that done, I need to thread wire into said wire path, wire up the thermostat, purchase a baseboard heater that is suitable, mount and wire it up, and Robert is your mother's brother.

This is less annoying than you think because it's all interior walls and they are just studs with board on them, not insulated exterior walls. It'll be relatively doable assuming I can make a template for the holes in the drywall so that patching them will be super easy. Consistency is key on that front and I am very qualified at drywall patch due to work.

I'm going to work on that stuff tomorrow but may not get it all done in one day. We shall see. Expect a progress report tomorrow.

Step 4: Patch drywall, take off baseboard trim, paint room some color that is neutral.

Step 5: Tear up carpet (very faded pink, it is twenty years old), padding, tacker strip.

Step 6: Put down laminate plank flooring. (I want hardwood but I cannot afford it and may not be able to install it because I am dumb and hardwood flooring is complex to install. I do laminate plank all the damn time at work and I'm good at it. Two days, max, on that.)

Step 7: Reinstall trim.

Step 8: Build or buy shelving for remaining books. Install crafting stuff to get it out of the living room.
