Grocery update. Last grocery budget (1-19-05) was $1853.04. I went to the grocery tonight and got milk and frozen brussels sprouts and coffee (a food item) and coffee filters (not a food item). Amount spent (less tax & filters): 11.70. Total remaining food budget for '05: 1841.34. Dinner this evening was steamed kale, mushrooms-in-butter, and half a cup of rice. It was delightful. I should eat more kale. It's good stuff. I think I'll have the rest of it for breakfast with polenta and some kidney beans. That sounds like an excellent idea.

Also, note to self: Collards. Buy some next week.

Answer to the unasked question from the peanut gallery: Don't you ever eat meat? Sometimes. Not often. I don't have views about eating animals or anything. I will eat cow and piggy and turkey and chicken and bambi with a reasonable amount of enthusiasm. I'm not a huge fan of things-that-swim or yeeps, so I don't eat those much.

If I buy it and eat it, you'll see it accounted for here. I'll make a special point of noting the meat items in the budget so that you don't miss 'em. Basically, anything I eat, with the exception of beverages from Starbucks, will show up here. (One medium-sized coffee beverage from Starbucks represents about a fifth of a week's food budget for me. It's an obscene amount of money to spend on a cup of coffee -- this does not stop me from *doing* it, but if I really were trying to save money, I sure as hell would not be having Starbucks very often. I'm trying for twice a month, which seems reasonable for treat purposes.)
