which_chickIt turns out that even if you have pretty decent control of your demonic cultivation whatsis...
(a) the very fact that you're doing something called demonic cultivation weirds people out
(a subpart 1) The visible black smoke Yin energy surrounding you does not help matters
(a subpart 2) If you get too powerful by what others consider "suspect means", they will fear you.
(b) reviving the dead is creepy.
(b subpart 1) Making the animate dead think and talk and stuff is double creepy
(b subpart 2) Making the aforesaid animate dead ALSO an on-demand and highly functional immortal combat assistant is completely untenable
(c) collecting up the displaced and persecuted refugees of the Evil Losing Side in a clan war and shepherding them to the abandoned/haunted lands where you learned to Demonically Cultivate so that they don't all get slaughtered by the winners thirsting for vengeance and shit...while this is definitely a humane act, it will not be a popular move.
(c subpart 1) Doesn't matter if your primary accomplishments with these people are in the areas of radish and lotus root farming
(c subpart 2) Regardless of what you are actually doing, people will think you're building a fortress and raising an army.
(d) The mob is gonna come for you. When the mob comes for you, logic falls by the wayside and it doesn't really matter what the truth or the right actually is. *sigh*
Pretty doctor lady from the Wen clan, for what it's worth, does not get to marry anybody. *sigh* Sorry Pretty Doctor Lady. You deserved better, though I don't think I could have managed hanging out with the dead younger brother thing for as long as you did. That was weird and creepy and I feel like you lacked exposure to The Monkey's Paw or something during your formative years.

(I'm sure you can tell, I'm working backwards through my flist. Xd It's entertaining to see your reactions to all these events. I was already spoiled for pretty much all main events/twists before I even started watching. Took some of the tension our of it and it definitely helped to be familiar with faces/names, but some gut punches lost a bit of impact. Can't win them all.)

Date: 2023-06-22 08:23 pm (UTC)For media that's been out for a while this does mean I have to be a bit careful about exposure to the accretions of fannish culture and artifacts surrounding the media because once the thing has wrapped, fans quite reasonably think all the people in the fandom are on board with the closed book of completed canon. I honestly expect a bit more... slip in this expectation as asynchronous viewing trends expand.
Our modern media landscape is packaged and delivered very differently than the broadcast TV I grew up with. (I am old.) A fanbase these days does not have the unities of Greek Theater like broadcast TV did. People are all discovering things in their own time, watching stuff at their own pace, etc and it's only gonna get worse from here on out.

I guess that's why many people feel the need to bingewatch when a new show drops, because they don't want to get spoiled and have to rush through it. For me, that's just too much stress and pressure, and I've made my peace with perhaps being spoiled. I simply don't have the time to always watch everything immediately, especially if they drop the whole show in one go. And I'm too lazy to block content tags. XD
