Moar Power
Jan. 28th, 2020 08:03 pmMy electric company has a website. My average power use (last thirteen months of bills) is 245 KWHs. I am kind of OK with that. The average for my state is 857 KWHs per month.
Mine is a household of one. Right there is most of "how I do it" because my house is not real super weathertight or efficient or equipped with amazing modern appliances.
Also, I allegedly have "electric heat" which I guess I do but it's set at fucking fifty degrees (F, so 10C for you non-Merkins) and hardly ever runs. I have a woodstove I run when I want heat. It has a small electric fan that runs to spread the heat around and that's WAY more energy efficient than running the electric baseboard.
I do have an electric stove, fridge, water heater, and clothes dryer. I use these things, none of which are super new or efficient, but I don't use them to excess.
If KWHs do not make sense to you, my electric bill runs about $32.44 per month.
