May. 26th, 2004 10:58 pmダーズリー一家が目を覚ますと、外はどんよりとした灰色の空だった。

When the Dursleys awoke, the sky outside was the color of ashes. This is not ideal. I have no clue what どんよりとした is doing there. The dictionary comes up with crap for all or part of どんより. The とした part is a verb of ?? possible ongoing whatnot. If we all pretend not to see that clause, which I just left floating off to the side because I have no idea what it does for the sentence (my best guess is "adjectival on 外" but I wouldn't put money down on it), I'm happy with the rest of this and I don't think huge chunks of meaning are going missing here. Perhaps things will improve tomorrow.
In other news, here is a Drosera rotundifolia. Drosera (Sundews) are one of the three kinds of carnivorous plants native to Pennsylvania. (The other two are pitcher plants and bladderworts.) My finger is in the picture to show scale... these are a lot smaller than you probably think they are, but they're still neat. My Stanwell Perpetual rose also bloomed today, but I thought this was more interesting, so no roses for you.
