Lest I forget, here's the updated doily picture. I am ready to start round 20. There are 31 rounds, total. I am NOT amused about the motif that repeats around the slits at the junction of the Y's. *ahem* Yes. That motif, there. I did not enjoy doing it.

I also got another coat of paint on the DVD shelving last night. The finish is nice but I can still see some areas that I'm not happy with. Three coats it is. (They're thin coats.) I'd like to take this moment to thank my eighth grade shop teacher, whose name escapes me like so much of the minutae of 1983 (this was the year my parents divorced and a great deal of it is blurry in my mind). Anyway. That's where I learned to paint half-decently, in eighth-grade wood shop. Judging from the number of friends and family I know who have moved into some-assembly-required houses, there is a real need for professional non-building-trade people to be able to paint, strip off old, icky wallpaper, tear up linoleum and put down tile... Maybe there is room for shop in these, our modern times.

I went to make more cookie dough (it has to chill overnight) but discovered that I only had one egg in the fridge. I suck. So there's half-mixed batter in the fridge waiting for me to get home with eggs tonight after work. It'll be all right. (The reason I didn't just pop out to the grocery store was that it was past ten PM and the grocery wasn't open. If the grocery had been open, it would have been a half an hour away, one way. I do not ever pop out to the grocery store. Sometimes this makes dinner at my house something of an Iron Chef event...)

Knitting has been on the upswing for hip chicks for at least the last two or three years. The Stitch-n-Bitch book surfed that trend -- I have a copy and it's clearly aimed at someone younger and hipper than I am.

I think it's the season for crafty and such, though. The cookies got out of hand on me this year -- I don't know what the deal was, there, but I feel better for having done it. I'm kind of miffed that I didn't find time to make the utterly sexy sables that were over at the NYT. Fortunately, The Hungry Tiger (http://www.stuttercut.org/hungry/) posted the recipes a couple of days back so that even though the NYT link has moved, I can still try them out at my leisure.

I should learn to knit. I inherited some kickass old McCall's craft books from 1948-1961 and they have knitted sweater, dress, hat, and accessory patterns that are SO darn cute. I really love vintage fashion, so I should get it together and learn.

I'm glad I learned because of socks. Hand-knitted socks are incredibly sexy. I learned how to knit off the interweb thingie... here (http://www.wonderful-things.com/newknit.htm).

Whoot! Thanks for the link. It's going straight into my "fashion stuff" bookmarks folder.
