The revised gingersnap recipe is better than the original.



Here is the unsatisfactory gingersnap recipe with additions (in bold):

2 1/3 c AP flour
1 t ground ginger and another 1/2 t ground ginger
1 t cinnamon
1/4 t ground red pepper
1/2 t ground cloves
1/2 t salt
2 t baking soda
3/4 c butter
1 c sugar
1 large egg
1/3 c molasses

Bake 375 (it says) but I find they burn less easily at 350. Ymmv, obvously.

Verdict: Better. I still think these could use more red pepper but for normal people, they're fine.

Also, with the rest of this week (pre-Saturday), I have to dig up tools to fix0r busted up windoze computers. I rather thought I'd left that part of my life behind, but apparently not. I don't *mind* doing it -- computers mostly like me -- but I'm way the fuck out of practice. Maybe I'll ask Ed what for tools he still has around for that. I've got T1's dead puter sitting on the living room floor (which I've been ignoring and hoping will go away on its own but that never works...) and now T2's is all popup sick. T1 freely admits that his has gotten pornfucked*, don't know what happened to T2's. T2's is on dialup at her house so I'll need to take tools with me to fix it. Either that or I'll have to schlep it to my house, fix it, and then schlep it back. It won't be impossible but, dang, it's been a while since I needed to do this sort of thing and I don't have tools anymore.

*pornfucked: Your computer has been fucked up by you visiting malicious porn sites.

Music: I've given up. This is going to be the holiday season of Rammstein. I'll try not to set Santa on fire.

Again, assembly instructions for the cookies.

1. Cream butter and sugar.

2. Add egg, molasses.

3. Add everything else but the flour. Mix well. (This makes a more equitable distribution of spices and stuff than letting the dry spice ingredients be with the flour. I do not sift. Ever. I also do the thin crispity Moravian Spice Cookies this way.)

4. Add flour. Stir to mix.

Bake 375 on parchment-paper-covered cookie sheets. They take 8 to 10 min. to cook, burn easily. They firm up as they cool. Makes 4 1/2 dozen cookies with a teaspoon sized cookie dough scoop if you don't snark the batter. The batter is ab-fab raw.
