I hate that I sometimes lose things on the internet -- stuff isn't where I left it or I don't have enough pieces to find it again. This is most problematic with (as I've said previously) porn. I should have, back in the day, printed out hard copy of the stuff that I would want to read again five years later when the fandom is pretty much done.



People smarter-than-I-am print out their net porn. I should have made notes of authors and titles of pieces, at the very least. It's rather frustrating to have to google for that GW fic with the gloves and that bit on the couch, man I love that one (Not able to find the fucking thing. Damn, this is pissing me off and it's NOT the Rammstein song one, not, not, not. I keep thinking it's at GWA but it's not so far as I can tell, damn it all.) or The one where Lex and Clark are in the car, uses the word propinquity (One of my favorites, cannot locate anymore without resorting to internet archives. It's "Let It Snow" by Debchan, found here for the moment. "I can pretend this has everything to do with propinquity.") or or The one where he does him and he's on the couch... (Probably over at 7th Dimension but finding it... ah, that's the hell of it. Got it. Story "Proof" by Boyd, aka KAI, posted in (now I feel fucking old) 1999. It's here, but like I say, it's porn.)

The internet should not move things. Search engines should be able to come up with something when I type in all I've got. I am not asking for first-page results. I am asking for a hit in ten pages of results. I'd like "This link is dead, would you like to try to pull it from an archive site?" I'd like for there to be really good archives for fanfic ephemera years and years after the thing it was fanfic for has faded. Sometimes I can pull what I want from the internets, as I did the other day with the FY fic. Sometimes... I cast the net and it comes up empty. (I wouldn't be trolling for aged pornfic except it's sleeting outside and I can't really go anywhere or do pony things. I'm bored.) Today was largely an empty-net day. Bugger.

I completely get that. There was some Caribbean pirate porn I was inordinately fond of called 'Ideas of Sin', that was *HUGE* and really worth the read. It's completely gone now. Can't find hide nor hair of it. I've been kicking myself for a couple of years now.

I feel your pain.

I spent years and years looking for an article I found online in like 1995, when the web was a wee little puppy nursing at Usenet's pap. It was called "Hangin' With Zontar On The Grassy Knoll" and was one of the funniest things I'd ever read. (I was looking for articles with strange Kennedy assassination theories and found that one.)

Finally found it a year or so ago and got smart and printed it out. I don't want to have to hunt for it again.
