which_chickSix hundred fifty days. Still fucking miss 'em. I wonder if that'll ever go away? *sigh* At least I'm not fat.
Horse news: Sacked out Mezcal with a feed sack today. She took it pretty well. I cannot be accused of vicious-killer lack o' patience here, because the lead rope was laid over my shoulder (not being held onto by my hands) the whole time. If the horse never gets kercited enough to drag the lead rope off my shoulder, she's not too damn pressed. So. We also did feet, where some headway is being made. Practice, practice. I drove her through the cones, which she gave me no hassle about, and I put her back in the field. I think Mezcal could use another day of sacking out, feet, and go-forward (not ready for trailer loading yet) practice, so that's what we'll do tomorrow. If all goes well, it could be a short day for her.
Nick followed me out of the field today without a halter on. I walked out to get her, put a hand under her chin to unstick her for the first step, and turned and walked out of the field. She followed me, three feet behind, stopping when I stopped, walking when I walked, just like she had a halter and lead on. Hrm. We worked on ground-tying, which I think went pretty well. Also I am pretty happy with how Nick's mane-relocation project is going. I've got one small hunk that I'll keep in a braid this week, and then I think that'll be fixed. Yay!
Mezcal could use a mane-relocation project, but my mane comb is pretty beat up and I don't know as how it will be able to go through her extremely thick and unruly mane. I'll consider it, anyway. No need to build Rome in a day.
