Aug. 15th, 2007 07:35 amI spent yesterday working on railings at the office. They are cast-iron railings with lots of curly bits and about five layers of paint, so paint removal is not fast but more along the lines of tedious. If I ever get done with paint removal, I'm going to be putting paint, in roughly the same color that is on there now, back on. This seems kind of... dumb, but there you are. I also took money down on one of our vacant apartments. (There are currently two. We have one-in-eviction but I think there's about a week to go before we can order for possession on that one.)
I went grocery shopping (desperately needed) last night and made ratatouille with some of the haul. That'll be food for the rest of the week and I might even make rice to go with it. My dinner last night, though, was tomato sandwiches. :) I had two of those and they were exceptional. The tomatoes came from the Mile Level Market. (Where I live is mountain-y enough that when you have a level mile, it's important enough to be the name of things. Places like Ohio and Kansas and Oklahoma do not have wide spots in the road named "Mile Level" because, yo, that describes damn near the entire countryside.) The tomatoes were so ripe that they bled juice all over the cutting board when I sliced them. All over, seriously a mess. This was not like the cutting of cardboard winter tomatoes where, if you're lucky, they will seep a bit. I don't much like winter tomatoes.
I finished mowing the lawn last night. As I suspected, I'd already mowed over the yellowjacket part, so I steered clear of it and had an incident-free mowing. I also harvested three ripe red raspberries from the canes that did jack shit last year and are now making stealth berries for me. It looks like they're doing nothing. It looks like there are no berries. However, if you come back in a week or so, there will be ripe, red raspberries for you. Not many, this year, but enough to keep me looking. Brother-the-younger says that this is just their practice year and that they'll be better next year. I can hardly wait.
