After I posted last night, I went to bed because I was absolutely beat. About half an hour later, my brother Joe came to the door (around midnight-thirty) needing a flashlight and someone to hold it so that he could bury Cricket, his dog, in the orchard. She'd been hit by a car earlier that evening.

That was kind of depressing.

I'm so sorry.

I have a funny spouse story about my recently deceased cat, but it's sort of... well, *I* thought it was funny, but the spawn thought it in very poor taste. Are you in the mood for that?

She wasn't my dog, so I'm not real torn up about it even though it's a pretty damn ghastly way for anyone to die, even a dog. Let's hear the cat story.

Penn died the first week of July. My Vet's office doesn't bill you right away when you are standing there holding your dead cat in their office. They do send you a sympathy note the following week.

Anyway, we got the bill, and spouse went in with checkbook to the Vets office.

Spouse walks into the vet's office, "I'm here to make the last payment on my cat!"

Vet's receptionist, "hee hee hee..." she gains control of herself, "Oh! I'm sorry about your loss!"

For some reason that phrase just keeps cracking me up, though I miss my 19 year old cat tremendously. "I'm here to make the last payment on my cat..."
