Boated again today. Since Dad put the boat ball on the old big-green-truck hitch (we got a new one for the big moving-the-backhoe trailer), I don't have to schlep the boat from the garage to the water by hand. More importantly, I don't have to schlep the boat BACK to the garage from the water by hand -- that's the uphill part, there. Keeping the boat in the garage will make it live longer and everything is easier with the hitch for the truck.

The winds after work are light. If I have to hoist my ass over the edge of the boat, that's a big wind. I shouldn't complain -- it's high summer. That's what the weather is like in the heat of summer and at least the water is warm. There's usually enough air to practice technique without it being so much that things get scary. Maybe by the time there is good wind, I'll be more able to handle it.

For now, though, basic skills are getting better. I can tack from starboard to port without dropping anything. Port to starboard is not so good yet, mostly because of the stupid hand. I will have to work on this. Gybes are improving -- I've been working on them more to get a feel for how not to flip the boat over and I'm either getting better, getting more confident, or having a good run of luck. Beating is not intuitive but I *can* get upwind -- this is not to say that there is no room for improvement in my upwind technique. My upwind technique is all about room for improvement.

I need to do something with the hiking strap, which is not up enough off the floor of the boat. I want it up further so's to be more conveniently located.

And I'd like to be able to sail off into the sunset without having to go back and get whatever the fuck it was I left on the beach. Yesterday it was the sail battens. Today it was the PFD. One of these days, I will remember everything.
