We're getting actual voting machines this year! There will be no more #2 pencil fill-in-the-dot ballots for us. No, siree! We are going to have real, live voting machines like the big cities had probably thirty years ago. It's progress, of a sort. I'm going to the voting machine training session tomorrow afternoon at the County Commissioner's office, an activity I expect to be significantly easier (mentally and physically) than going to my real job.

Truly, we are living in the future!

I was surprised -- PA did not require a verifiable paper trail to be part of the election upgrades to meet HAVA (Help America Vote Act, 2002) standards but our county commissioners felt we needed that anyway, so we got voting machines what have real, verifiable paper trails. You don't trust the machine, you can open it up and count the dots on the paper ballots using top-of-the-line meat-based technology. And we still did it under budget. (Only county in PA to manage this without needing additional county money.) Huzzah!
