Apr. 30th, 2006 04:36 pmThis just in: the ruby-throated hummingbirds are back from wherever they spend the winter. Mexico, I think. (Google says so, too) This, I know because I was sitting here with the front door propped open and a hummingbird flew into my house. (They do that pretty much all summer long.) This one was brighter than most and it flew back out without requiring my intervention. Thought you'd like to know.
Also, chopsticks are the perfect utensils for eating olives out of the jar. No drippy olives. No wet fingers. No mess. Can reach through the juice to get to the last few olives. No additional holes in the olives. (This is, for some reason, important to me.)

Date: 2006-04-30 08:19 pm (UTC)Do you have a feeder, or are they just drawn to your secret elven princess vibes? I see hummingbirds here pretty frequently, but I've never seen any fly indoors. I think. There was one incident with a bird in high school, but I don't htink it was a hummingbird.

Date: 2006-04-30 08:43 pm (UTC)I don't have a feeder or anything, but I grow a campsis vine (has big reddish-orange trumpet-shaped flowers that appeal to hummingbirds) and a red trumpet honeysuckle (small reddish-orange tube-shaped flowers that appeal...) on the chimney. However, neither of those has flowers at the moment. Perhaps the hummingbirds are flying into my (darker than outside) house for a brief period of time to riff on some philosophy thing that I unfortunately have an incomplete enough recall of to turn up on google. Sorry. It would have been quite a nice joke if I'd been able to dredge up the reference.
