sara_merry99 is doing "ask me anything" and I never know what to ask because I don't want to be rude and apparently even when I take care not to be rude, it's like pissing on a forest fire. *sigh* Also, cousin_sue is doing "what I like/love/adore about you" but if I did that then I'd have to come up with nice things to say about people, and for why this is not a good idea, see "rude", above. So, y'know, no meme-age for me.
Today I put down roll roofing with the boy. Now, asphalt roofing cement (the black goop used to stick down roll roofing) does not come off unless you have a proper solvent. If you try to wipe it off or pick it off or smear it off, you wind up like Brer Rabbit against the Tar Baby. Ash got some of that crap on him and I told him that roofing cement was very like the Tar Baby and he'd best just leave it be, whereupon he said "What's a tar baby?" *sigh* Kids these days. That was how I wound up relating the story of Brer Fox, Brer Rabbit, and the Tar Baby at work today.
Also, I went to the grocery store, a subject about which I've not said much lately. Don't worry -- I'm not starving to death or anything, just it wasn't even close as far as how I was doing with the budget and while some stories are okay when you know the ending ahead of time, others get pretty boring. The grocery store saga struck me as one of the boring ones, so I quit doing it. I do still grocery shop and stuff, I just don't tell you all about it anymore. Today, the grocery store had good collards AND I was able to locate the bacon (due to helpful instructions from my younger brother) AND they now carry sushi rice. I about died when I saw that. Now, it's in 1-lb. packages and it's not one of the two brands I like (Kokuho Rose is my very favorite, Nishiki is what I buy when that's not available. I think Kokuho Rose has a nicer, pearlier structure with less breakage when I mix it for sushi rice.), but I will grant them a couple of points for a good effort. If they could just improve the selection of dried legumes, we'd really be cooking with charcoal...
