I was so tired last night after dinner that I could not keep my eyes open. That would be why there was no Tuesday night grocery post. Sorry about that, but I do have a Wednesday morning grocery post for you.

Old grocery budget: $1499.84
Amount spent at grocery: 28.62
Amount spent at assorted food joints: 5.43 (chicken tenders and some bottled water)
New grocery budget: $1465.79

The grocery was about half torn apart when I went. There were aisles half empty of food, bunches of stuff sitting in the middle of of the aisles on carts. I expect that they're having a corporate reorganization of some sort. Whatever. If they move stuff, I just won't be able to find it. I am currently unable to locate the bacon. Honestly. Isn't that a staple food item? Should it not be at least reasonably close to the meat section? (I think bacon is made of meat. If there exists soy bacon, it is surely unsatisfying.) I'd buy bacon if I could find it.

If I were married, I would not be having this problem. I could send the man out to bring home the bacon.

(There are likely those of you now rolling your eyes on the grounds that the entirety of two paragraphs ago was a setup for that less than inspired humor. It wasn't. I actually cannot find the bacon at my Weis. Suggestions on that front are welcome.)

I think it's time for a little satire. This one isn't A Modest Proposal but it's fun anyway.

Also, I have flung shit at the fan with the following paragraph addressed to our summer people*:

Finally, from the date of this letter, two-wheeled motorized conveyances suitable for off-road use will NOT be permitted on Valley-Hi Development Association property. This prohibition includes dirt bikes, off-road BMX bikes, and off-road motorcycles. Street-legal, licensed motorcycles are permitted on the plowed roads (Valley-Hi Road, East Shore Drive, and Mountainside Road to the turnaround) but not elsewhere. If you are not sure whether or not your two-wheeled motorized conveyance is a prohibited vehicle, please ask us for a written ruling on the vehicle in question before operating it on Association property.

All ya'll recall the ninja bikes, right?

*Summer people are the people, unrelated to me, who own a 1/4 acre piece of land (with or without a house) in the valley. They pay a yearly membership fee (not very expensive) for the right to walk, swim, 4-Wheel ATV, hunt, and otherwise twink around on our land, which is about five hundred acres (with a forty acre lake) of woods. I do not much like the summer people. I don't like their dogs, their children, their grandchildren, their propensity for mowing, their ATVs, their inability to drive in the snow, their whining about the dust from the dirt road, their need to burn things on dry, windy days, their drive to cut down all the fucking trees between the road and the lake (these trees are on property that they do not own, btw), their total cluelessness about ecology, their willful blowing away of harmless constrictor snakes, or their many other unappealing aspects. When I refer to the summer people, I am probably not going to say kind things.

And yea, the voice of reason says If you don't like the summer people, why did you sell the land to them? Some of the summer people have been around for thirty years. I am thirty-five. I inherited the summer people. The sins of the fathers...

Here's what it looked like where I live this morning. This is the view down from Ray's Hill onto our property. I don't know that I'm happy with how the foggy nature of the morning showed up. Perhaps I will have to try again.

Persons who look at image paths will note that I got off my ass and made a directory for this stuff. Stuff will expire from the LJ image directory after a month or so -- I don't know that anyone much reads the older entries anyway, and if they do, well, too bad.

Want to see what Taku looks like these days? Still ugly, not quite so shaggy, not quite so skinny. (Yes, that is my car tag. You could find out my real name thataway, or you could just read carefully and google. It is quite possible to link up my online identities and my real name and I don't much give a shit if you do. Please note that if you must call my house, I would prefer it if you did something more entertaining than pant into the phone. Also, be advised that callers may be recorded and turned into multimedia for this LJ.) Taku and I had a good day today with a grid of tires laid out on the ground. Progress was significant, though I think we need another day on that obstacle to consider it a win. She did eventually give me one nice flatfoot walk over the obstacle, but it took a while. I don't know that she'll stay with that response, but it was such a good note that I put her away immediately after that.
