They are prepping Grandma for surgery this afternoon. She has air in her abdomen that isn't supposed to be there and apparently this is fatal if not addressed via surgery. The surgery is pretty iffy and grandma's 93 and quite frail. In short, it doesn't look good.

I will provide an update sometime after 5 PM because I am going to be at work for the rest of the day without access to the blog. For any family members who would like a more timely update, feel free to call the office and M will give you what she has. No, we don't know who's doing the surgery. No, we don't know when the surgery is scheduled to start or when it's supposed to be over. No, I don't know what the hell the condition is actually called so that you can go google. I don't know a damn thing beyond what I've said.

This is being posted primarily for brother-the-elder, who is away at graduate school and for whom I do not have a current cell phone number handy. I have already called brother-the-younger and I presume that the other branches of ye olde family tree have trickled down the information to my generation as and when they have been able.

As well, I had M. call Mexico and leave a message on what we presume is Dad's answering machine although it spoke at her in Spanish. We also sent Dad an email on the situation, but Dad and Sue are in Tepic for two days and he said he would not be reading or answering email during that time. We did the best we could.

I only *got* this information about twenty minutes ago, so please do not hammer on me about failing to keep people informed. I can only do so much.

It was a perforated ulcer. Surgery is over. Faber did the work and seems to feel that it went well. She is in intensive care.

I'm glad the surgery is over and appears to have gone well. I hope she recovers well.
