Hey, while we're on the subject, here's a sample email generated by my web pages!

The web page that generated the email is here.

This is the reply I sent them. I figure you can kind of follow along without having to have seen the one they sent me because I'm an intelligent quoter. The stuff they sent originally is in italics where I quote it.

Teep,

We are looking for "MAN RULES" like those found on your website. Please
go to www.OfficiaManCard.com and look at our MAN RULES page. We are

There's a typo in the URL you provided. It should read www.officialmancard.com
but I figured it out, so no worries.

looking to create a page of man rules from men around the world, and
would love for you to contribute.

Uhm. No matter what impression you might have gotten from my web pages (and
I'm having grave doubts about your ability to read for meaning), I'm not a man now,
have never been a man, and have no particular desire to become a man.

Looking forward to your entry,

Unfortunately, I am probably disqualified by virtue of being a woman. Sorry,
guys.

:) :) Oh, Jessica. See, that's the sort of thing that has me, and probably others, absolutely dippy about your writing. :)

And they *spammed* me, on the basis of my reply *here*.

So, they wrote me back. I'm quoting the whole thing so that all ya'll can see this.

Jessica,

Sorry for the typo, although sounds like you'd make a great secretary.
As for your grave doubts about our meaningful reading, have you seen
our website? If you have, then you would understand. After all, we
really are just men,

PS. We wouldn't mind a womans opinion on the site.

Who wants to be the first person to point out my major problem(s) with this email? (The lack of an apostrophe in the last line, while annoying as hell, does not count as a "major problem".) I'm looking for two specific grievances, here. Any takers?

A great secretary!? Oh boy! Sign me up!

That statement (the "you'd make a great secretary" thing) would make my actual secretary (M.) die laughing, but yeah, that's the first major problem. Can anyone spot the second?

Probably the "after all, we really are just men." The secretary thing struck me as incredibly insulting as well as the stupid as hell embodied by the rest of the message...

Yep. The "just men" thing sounds folksy and cute right up until you realize that they're saying one's gender should excuse one's behavior. No. Particularly not today, content of their character day. :)

Other than the mind-grinding stupidity and the lack of grammar skills, you mean?

"although sounds": an "it" would be nice.

"a womans opinion": woman's, of course (you already mentioned this issue)

FWIW, I just got an email from an attorney recently (one to whom I refer particularly difficult criminal cases) in which he informed me that a common client of ours had a "fleeing and alluding" charge reduced to disorderly conduct. This is from a pretty smart guy who has prosecuted murder cases (before he switched over to the "good guys" on the defense side of the bar).
