which_chickI took the stripper to the cedar chiffarobe (that's what it is -- half-inch solid red cedar, 60"x40"x20") just to see what it looked like. I did a test piece about a foot square. It's nice. Unfortunately, the construction of the thing... isn't nice. It looks like it was maybe a kit or something. It's just not well put together. If I were going to keep it as what it is, I'd have to take it apart and reglue a lot of the joints that are currently not holding. The thing is that I don't have any need for a chiffarobe. My house has closets. So if I'm going to be taking it apart ANYWAY, what I'd really like to have is a cedar chest. I was looking at the chiffarobe last night and I reckon there's enough wood in there to build me a fine cedar chest.
I do not know how to build a cedar chest. I've never built one before. I am not paying for plans because what I want, here, is a box with a lid. I think I can handle it. I realize that there will be, y'know, tool-using. I can do tool-using. There's a table jig that probably still works in the shed at the lodge so that I can make me some feet for a cedar chest. (And won't that be fun? Feet!) I think I can recycle the milled boards from the two doors on the chiffarobe to generate one flawless lid for the cedar chest. I measured and looked last night at the boards available to me. The math all looks pretty good. I guess I need to learn about mitered edges. They'd be prettier, see. It's all about the pretty. And how do they make furniture so that you can't see the nails? I need to get me some of that.
I am also still working on the heroin dresser, but mostly that's in the stages of "apply coat of tung oil, wait two days, scuff-sand with four-ought wool, apply another coat..." and it's not very exciting. Tonight I'm going to see about cutting the drawer rails for the center of the drawers (two) and putting them in. That'll be exciting, I guess. Also, another coat of oil. I think that'll put us up to four or five. The references say ten is a good number for using-furniture, and I'm not really in a hurry.

Or maybe there's just one, bent on cornering the chiffarobe market, like Tino De Angelis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tino_De_Angelis) and his attempt on the soybean oil market.

I would also like to point out that I'm NOT the one who brought up Snarry at the Halloween function. That was not me. Okay, I did exhibit a total lack of surprise that such a thing existed and I could, if asked, point any interested parties towards a slew of suitable additional readings and offer useful thoughts on the whole dynamic and classics of that 'ship. But, and I cling to this for all it's worth, it wasn't me who started that conversation.

Date: 2005-11-02 12:07 am (UTC)And I have little to no problem with sex in a story, if it doesn't get in the way of the story. I realize that Snarry is there FOR the sex. And having just read a few so that I can say "I have read some", I can say that it's not as bad as Dragon Ball Z fanfic.
And disturbing sex of any type... well, it disturbs me. Having been a teacher, I just can't help but feel oogy over teacher/student sex stories.
I noticed, however, the discussion of fanfic and martian porn stopped immediately when the twelve year old entered the room. Thank you all very much.
