This just in: I have one free spare ticket to La Boheme at the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore on Sunday, May 7, 2006. (It's a matinee, so you'll be home at a reasonable hour.) Mom will be in England at that time and will not be able to attend. I don't want to go by myself. La Boheme is an opera by Puccini and it generally makes the best-of-breed lists by people who like the stuff. (Therefore, let's have some fucking enthusiasm, here. It's not like I'm trying to sell you people on Le Dialogue Des Carmelites or The Queen of Spades or something.) The outing will also include a pre-opera lunch at the Akbar, which serves damn fine indian food at extremely reasonable prices. Anybody want to go see La Boheme in May? (If there is no response from these quarters, I will start shopping the ticket around locally, which may involve a significant amount of arm-twisting because most of the flesh people where I live think opera is about as enjoyable as a root canal.)

Actually, that sounds like a lot of fun. I haven't been to the opera since high school (when our Fine Arts Club took a day trip to the Met), and I'm even familiar with the story of La Boheme. I'd be happy to go. And I'll behave. Promise. :)

Good lord, I would freaking love that but if all goes well I'll have a week-old infant at the time. What timing.

Well, this appealed to more people than I thought it would. Sorry about that.

The winning bid is from [livejournal.com profile] sara_merry99, who emailed me offering to put me up Saturday night and host a leisurely pre-opera morning *with breakfast*. Since she lives closer to Baltimore than I do, I can split the driving into two days instead of just one, which makes my life easier. (The reason I don't do it that way with my mom is that there would be fatalities involved.) Also, she's a girl and will not hold excessive Mimi-dies-of-tuberculosis sniffles against me later, not, mind you, that I cry at the opera. Not at all. Scout's honor.

Mimi-dies-of-tuberculosis sniffles are almost de rigeur and not to be held against anyone. I mean what kind of heartless bastard *wouldn't* sniffle at Mimi dying of tuberculosis (singing beautifully as she goes...).

(Though I decided a while ago that I would absolutely humiliate myself if I went to see La Traviata, because I *bawl* during the last act. Not just genteel sniffles and a little dabbing of the eyes with a tissue. Nope. Great gasping sobs and honking nose blowing. Definitely an at home alone with Teresa Stratas and Placido Domingo on the DVD type pleasure.)

I promise I can behave myself at La Boheme. Thanks!
