Apr. 10th, 2005 06:27 pmToday I did my taxes. I owe, but that's par for the course and I'm not overly upset or surprised about it. My withholding is correct, but as I have other, non-wage sources of income, I owe. I report my non-wage sources of income because that's the law. D'oh. I don't file quarterly estimated taxes because that pisses me off more than paying it all at once and eating the minimal penalty as a convenience fee for not having to file asinine quarterly estimateds. About a quarter of my income (26.25%) comes from non-wage sources. Neat. (Where did this number come from? I took [Total Income minus wages, tips, salaries, etc.] divided by Total Income, numbers from the first page of my 1040.) Ideally, I would like to have all of my income coming from non-wage sources. Ideally. I'm working on it. Give me time.
I also mulched the peonies and roses, a project that involved wading through about as much shit as doing my taxes.

Date: 2005-04-12 02:14 am (UTC)I could probably have claimed a gigantic loss, actually, but I am too lazy to figure out home-office crap and I didn't keep receipts for any of my supplies and crap. I actually officially went out of business because I am so small-time and so lazy, that it's easier to just report it as non-wage income next year.

Date: 2005-04-12 02:30 am (UTC)I need to find a basic spreadsheet program to track, er, interest. Most of my personal non-wage inocme is interest from loans I've made to people. My debtors, who are normal people, do not send me 1099 forms like banks do, and while I keep track of these loans on paper, probably using a computer would help. If nothing else, it'd look more official in case I'm ever audited.
