The Great Wave Off Kanagawa is that Japanese block print wave picture that you've seen. It's the one everyone has seen. You totally 100% know this picture even if you don't know what it's called.

So, the artist of this picture is Hokusai.

If you spend as much time as I have in certain less-wholesome parts of the internet, you may also have seen the creepy Japanese block print of the nekkid girl and the octopuses. It's called The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife and it is BY THE SAME GUY as the Great Wave picture, which I did not know before today.

But wait, there's more!

The girl-n-octopuses picture has words on it. Go read the linked wikipedia page, there is a translation and it is amazeballs.

All that certain class of manga now makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE.

Okay, so I'm (mumble) years old and I like nerd shit. It's practically a given that I sucked down the entire Dragonlance Chronicles with the enthusiasm of a new talent in the porn industry giving it her all on her first filmed blowie. What can I say, I was fourteen when they came out. To my credit, I have not tried to reread them as a groan-up. (Because I groan when I get up. This is not as funny now as it was when I first heard it from pg2 in the late 1990's.) I learned not to do that to favorites with The Black Stallion, which I loved as a sprog. Its prose wilted under my higher standards as a young adult. :( It was still a great story and I wish I hadn't tarnished it by trying to reread it. Anyway. I have not reread Dragonlance for a very long time. I loved them when I was fourteen.

Since I live in a cave and I don't, like, follow the fandoms of when I was fourteen, I was unaware that somewhere in Russia, people thought it would be a Good Idea (tm) to make a Dragonlance Musical. Srsly, they did this, couple of years back.

It contains exactly as much scenery-chewing as you might expect. Songs are kinda catchy. Costumes are pretty good. The guy doing Raistlin has some pipes. (Yes of course he's the main character. Gets the best songs. This should not suprise you if you have even a passing knowledge of the original texts.) You can watch the entire thing (two hours plus) with subtitles here. I am not suggesting you do anything of the sort but if you do I will not judge you.

Honestly it works pretty well as a musical.
