Orchid updates!
Dec. 20th, 2025 09:47 pmThe orchids are doing well.
The rehab phals are making efforts at blooming but it'll be a while until they're actually blooming. Right now they're just sending up spikes. Gateway, Cabot, and Blue are making spikes at the moment. Overachiever Cabot is making 2 spikes at one time. Blue is new this year for flowering, didn't flower last year but made some nice leaves.
Rehab phals Roots, Deli, and Naked are not making spikes at the moment. Roots bloomed last year but got started late on that, so I'm not concerned about him. Deli put out a new leaf for a total of three. Naked finished his first new leaf (so two total) and has started on another leaf so I graduated him to a pot. I'm ok with the non-spiking rehab phals -- they're doing OK and they need leaves to make flowers.
Dendrobium #1 threw up a second bloom stalk, so as the blooms on Stalk 1 are fading, the blooms on Stalk 2 are opening. Gonna have more flowers on Dendrobium #1. While the orchids bloom about once a year, the blooms last for quite a while.
Dendrobium #2 is blooming (2 flowers) and I took a picture. It is the same color scheme as Dendrobium #1 but much more rounded petals. Big fan of the look, Dendro #2.
Tolumnia Golden Sunset Brownie is throwing up a spike. He bloomed last year and made a new fan this summer, which is now doing a spike for blooms probably in February.
Wilsonara Space Mine Red Rendezvous is also throwing up a spike. He didn't bloom last year but looks to be doing OK this year. His leaf tips got a little crispy during a light error earlier this year, but I have fixed the light error and he's doing well otherwise.
The cattleya is making a new... bulb-leaf thing. I moved it into more light because apparently cattleya need more light. All the light. I will figure out how to cattleya, but apparently it's not gonna be this year.
