Over the weekend I got a lot of yard stuff done so that I'm all set for fall.

At Lala's house (where the horses live), I moved hay for the horses for the week, swept out the chicken coop on the ground floor, and scrubbed the water tub. I also mowed up above Lala's garden, including the waist-high stuff, and loaded up six hundred pound feed sacks with dry fluffy horse poop to mulch my garden.

At home, I cut the grass for the last time and put the mower away for the winter.

I stacked all the firewood and raked up the bits and stuff, which I removed from the grass. (Wood is messy. When you process firewood, there are always bits.)

At this point, most of the big red oak has been rolled out of the woods, split into eighths or sixths, and stacked neatly in the "split into stove pieces next year" pile. The remaining pieces are... troublesome and may wait in the woods until I feel more motivated, next year sometime.

I took the aforementioned horse poop and mulched the peonies, asparagus, and two of the roses. (The other roses will get hit in the spring. I ran out of enthusiasm and horse poop before I could get to them.)

The garden is mostly set to rights but I need to wait for the frost to kill Roy's dahlias, which are blooming like their lives depend on it. They're kind of fancy and he says he will keep them for me until next year.

I also (finally) removed the wisteria vine and roots from the yard and took them to the burn pile for eventual combustion. I liked the wisteria but it was running twenty feet into the woods and being invasive and stuff, so... bye, Felicia. (Likely I will have to "bye Felica" repeatedly. Wisteria does not go gently into that good night.)

On Sunday, I walked 2.6 miles up Akersville Road with Trysta (fitness walking), a climb of 720 feet over the distance, so 5.2% grade. That's a hike. It's nice, state-game-land camber of the road notwithstanding. (These roads do not get winter maintenance and they have a very noticeable crown on them which makes walking somewhat annoying unless you have a leg length differential.) Did yoga with Lala on Saturday night. I've been keeping up OK with the fitness walking (3x a week) and the yoga (3x a week) for October, go me. It really helps having an accountability buddy for that stuff.

I also went to lunch on Sunday with Lala at the local new "has real cocktails" pub. She had a bloody mary, I had a painkiller. We also ate food. It was pretty legit for being in Greater Rednecklandia. Oh, and we stopped at Tractor Supply on the way home and got the big posts for the stallion pen (currently does not contain any stallions because has no fencing and also we do not own any stallions except Finn who still thinks he's a baby and is living with Bird (my gelding) and not killing him. Bird still beats Finn up, moves him around, and generally is the boss of him.

However, as Finn is not yet three, probably now is the time to get the stallion pen fixed up and solid, before it's actually needed. So, big fence posts for the corners. We will also hot it up with electric before anybody is in there.

It was a super busy weekend.
