Since I bought my 2007 Honda Fit in 2013 or whatever, it's had a godawful aftermarket shift knob that SPUN AROUND THE STICK and was loose and shitty. I drove it like that from 2013 until recently, when one of the three set screws that attached the shift knob to the stick fell out. With only two of the three set screws to secure it, the shift knob came off in my fucking hand.
I can, as we can tell from how long I drove my car like that, tolerate a godawful aftermarket shift knob that spins around the stick but I cannot tolerate a godawful aftermarket shift knob that COMES OFF THE STICK IN MY FUCKING HAND. I do have limits and shift knob that comes off in my hand is a hard limit.
Searching for aftermarket shift knobs suitable for a 2007 Honda Fit 5 speed is a kind of depressing activity. First off, the damn car is fifteen years old so aftermarket goodies are a bit thin on the market. Nobody driving a fifteen year old car is looking to accessorize it just for fun. (If they had money for frivolous car accessories, they would not be driving a fifteen year old car.) Secondly, it's not the kind of car that needs, in any real way, a fancy for racing aftermarket shift knob which is pretty much the only kind I could find (that had actual threads and not three set screws) in a casual search.
I bought a Skunk2 Racing shift knob for my Honda fit. It was sixty bucks.
First off, this is like the people who trot the barrel pattern buying a breast collar with glitter and fringe on it.
Second, it fits the car shifter stick wonderfully. Threads on perfectly, does not wobble or rotate an iota, just a great fit all the way 'round.
Third, while my 2007 Honda Fit is still powered by an asthmatic hamster motor, having a fun shift knob encourages me to pretend that my car is a sports car. Intellectually I know that it is not a sports car, but now it shifts well enough that I can sorta pretend it is one. :)
It really is a very nice shift knob. It's nicer than I thought it would be and I am really pleased with it.
