Busy weekend of stuff.
Jun. 6th, 2022 07:47 amSaturday I built my pretend dressage area in the flattish swale on the near side hayfield. It's not the most-flat area, but it is the most-flat area that has been cut and baled. (I have high hopes that the best, flattest area will have been baled by this afternoon in which case I can migrate the pretend dressage area at that juncture.)
Eight poles, nine cones. The poles are for the corners. Cones at MBFHEKC and 2 cones at A. In an ideal world there would be cones for V and S and shit but we only have nine cones, so... I guess I could use buckets. I have a lot of buckets.
After that, I rode the horse in the dressage work area. Fine. He was fine. The recently-baled field was exciting exactly one time, so yay. We worked on our forward and our 10 m circles and also the fun exercises from previous entry. Good times.
I played dragonfly at home but it was a little early in the season and the light breeze didn't help matters. It did help with the hay drying, so not a total loss on the breeze front.
After that, I got Mordecai (Trys's nine year old) and we messed around looking for exuvia and hiking and talking about fossils and learning to paddle the kayak and Rules For Boating (1. Wear a lifejacket. 2. Keep your butt on the seat. 3. Do not drop the paddle.) and the importance of being able to swim. A good time was had by all with three hours of busy outside time and no screens.
That evening I did Drinks With Lala, we had painkillers. They were delightful. Mordecai wanted us to come have drinks at his house, but I can only do so much Mordecai in one day. He is a very busy fellow and it's exhausting.
Our cocktails are kinda makeshift. I have a makeshift life, okay? I have a makeshift horse and a makeshift dressage area and a makeshift dragonfly net and makeshift cocktails and this is just the way my life is. I could reframe these things as custom if that sounds better. Anyway.
Get yo'self a rum. Plantation 5 year in the shibari outfit works pretty well, but I still have leftover Appleton Estate 8 yr so that's what I used. (It's also good for bananas foster, if you have any desire for that style of thing.) 2 oz rum plus 1 oz fresh squeezed orange juice out of an actual orange plus 4 oz of pulverized IQF Dole Pineapple Hunks (freezer section of the grocery store -- these work better unless you live where pineapples are grown or have a BOSS produce section at your grocery because they are perfectly ripe and won't spoil and can be used as needed) which you thaw and pulverize in the blender plus 1 oz of coconut cream (buy a can of coconut milk, boil it down by like a third, add an equal volume of sugar, a generous pinch of salt, bring back to a boil, et voila), shake with some ice, pour into a pint glass. Grate a rather large amount of fresh real nutmeg overtop. Garnish maybe with a wheel of orange so that it's bright and pretty.
In the real world, a Painkiller(tm) is only made with Pusser's Rum because they are assholes and copyrighted the drink. And you're supposed to use pineapple juice, not pineapple slurry. But (a) fuck Pusser's and (b) the slurry adds fiber, which is good for you. I'm not wasting the better part of an $11 bag of frozen pineapple hunks when slurry works just as well as juice.
