I recently bought a hand-cranked meat grinder (this one) off the internet for, well, NOT GRINDING MEAT. I don't do that. I don't want to do that.

What I WANTED was (a) ground cooked chickpeas for hummus (b) ground *raw* chickpeas for fake falafels, and (c) possibly ground up assorted other things of the vegetable world. I have heretofore been grinding my cooked and raw chickpeas in a mortar and pestle which let me just say is NOT ideal. It is just not ideal.

The hand cranked meat grinder does an absolutely lovely job at grinding up the stuff I want to grind up. Big fan. Would buy again. Super easy to clean. Good vacuum base holds tightly to a wet counter. Two grids makes big crumbles for falafels, small paste-like grind for hummus. Grinder also does a great job on garlic and jalapenos for salsa, kidney beans for fake-refried-beans (I like kidneys better than pintos, sue me), etc.

I haven't used this thing for meat because grinding up meat is not a thing I do. But for what I use it for, it works quite nicely and is way less fuss to use / clean than I had feared.

A mortar and pestle for chickpeas, oh no! That sounds like a nightmare, and I actually like using a mortar and pestle. Congrats on your sensible grinder.
