Trys and I took Genie and Punch (project ponies) out for a spin to the covered bridge stop sign and back. These are out-of-work ponies that have never really served as "go out alone" or "lead the ride" ponies, so it was a learning experience for them which was sort of the point.

Genie started off super high n tight, like "stand back boys, she's gonna blow" (She does this sometimes, but without actual explosions. She's just... fraught, not dangerous.) but she settled down like five minutes into the ride. Punch was slightly pressed but nowhere near as fraught as Genie. She also improved as the ride went on. Since nobody died anywhere and the ponies came back calm and workmanlike, it was a good outing. We did leapfrogs and were traffic-safe and practiced leg yields and walked across the covered bridge.

Also we got home just as the wind picked up and the temp started to drop, so good timing on our part.

When I got home, I started work on the first fruitcake of the year. (There are typically two holiday fruitcakes.) I've talked about fruitcake before, check the tag. I followed the recipe as written but also added a touch of Cointreau to the batter this year for a more citrus flavor. (I'm talking like half a teaspoon. NOT A LOT of Cointreau.) Have also mixed up Cointreau simple syrup -- 1/4 cup sugar, 2 Tbsp Cointreau, 2 Tbsp water -- for brushing on top of cooked fruitcake. It gives a nice orange-y flavor without having to fucking grate oranges, is why. We'll see how that turns out, fruitcake is in oven right now. It needs to cool slowly and then sit for two days (brushed with syrup twice) to sort of settle into itself before I can see how it came out.
