It's election night and I'm watching the returns roll in for a county I don't even live in.

Brother-the-younger is running for judge. He's currently a lawyer, but running for judge in his home county. He belongs to *sigh* the other party but I still think he's a decent human being who is not actually trying to oppress people. This is a difficult strait to navigate because I for sure think the other party as a whole is a tool of oppression that generally exists to maintain and perpetuate the current power structure in our society. I don't have a whole lot to defend myself with besides "I do not think he's a horrible person." Sorry.

For what it's worth, his county is fairly solidly the other party. It's not one of the evenly-divided ones, so you kinda need to belong to the other party if you wanna be a judge there. I mean, you CAN run as a Democrat, but you're not going to win anything if you do.

Results rolled in just a couple of seconds ago. In the race (two open judge slots, three candidates) he got the most votes. The other R candidate got the second-most votes, and the not-really-an-R-candidate (was a D, changed parties recently enough that voters knew about it, ran on both tickets) got rather a lot fewer. So he's going to be a judge. A straight, white, male, R judge like we need more of those. But on the upside, he'll be gainfully employed for the next ten years and won't have spent all that money in an unsuccessful bid for judge. (Judicial campaigns are not inexpensive.)

Knitting progress continues. I'll post some pix tomorrow or Friday.
