which_chickIt was a fairly busy playin-horse day.
First I took Genie the project pony out for a driving spin. There's no cart yet, but she wears a bridle and long reins and a surcingle and a backstrap/crupper and I don't go to her head to solve problems. I walk behind her with a driving whip and the reins and it's kinda-like driving only safer because I'm on foot. We spent about an hour out and about, working on circles and turning left and right and weaving cones and halting and standing and walk/jog. Pon-pon outings are kind of exercise-y for me because I have to walk behind her. I am hopeful that this summer early we can hook her to a large truck tire (rubber part only) and she can drag that around for a while and then perhaps there will be a cart. Maybe. I'm a little nervous about carts but perhaps if we do a stone boat first, the cart will be no big deal. She's very sensible and I remain hopeful that this is a thing we will be able to do.
After that I took Bird down the covered bridge road in the bareback pad. Marching walk for an hour and ten minutes, part of the springtime fitness initiative for him. (There should probably also be a springtime fitness initiative for me. Ugh.) He was only a bit damp on his chest when we got back. There was a slight breeze but the sun was very nice and I was dressed for the weather.
