It was 27 out today. Everything is frozen.
I broke the ice in the water for The Ladies and removed the ice hunks, threw them a fresh bale of hay, and fed them. Laur is home on the weekends and could do them but I was already bundled up and outside and she was fixin' to get firewood, so I just handled it. Got Bird out and took him for a spin with Trys on Tinnie. The mud is all frozen and footing is sufficient for hill marches, so that's what we did. We did hill marches today because it is supposed to snow tonight so that tomorrow there may not be good traction for hill marches. The boys were fine, plus we worked on our two-point position (reinforcing things from lesson, wherein the lunge line has featured largely in January) so that was good.
Afterwards, I took project pony Genie out for a spin down the hollow and back out (she hasn't been there before) by herself while Trys did some work with her project horse Snap. Since Genie was an ass and a half last time I had her out, I was a little worried about bad behavior this time so did some extra "hey, how are you feeling today?" rope work with her on the ground before I threw a leg over. Leading attentiveness, some circles, basic stuff. But she was fine. And the ride was fine. She was really quite good for new outing to new location by herself. None of the crap we had last time, much more willing to settle down and walk quietly. (In this cold, all I want from her green and unmuscled body is "walk quietly".) She was a trooper and it went really well. Trys, for her part, had an uneventful day with Snap, who is now wearing tack for her groundwork.
