From Philadelphia area: PA Turnpike WEST to Breezewood (This is after you cross the Susquehanna river and go through three very large tunnels. It's about three hours of turnpike driving.) exit. Get off at Breezewood Exit. Take first RIGHT ramp to Route 30 East (towards Gettysburg, I believe the sign says). Follow later directions for "From Route 30 East"...
From Baltimore/DC/Frederick metro area: I-70 WEST to Breezewood. At the stoplight, make a right onto Route 30 East, drive on that road (no turns) out of Breezewood, follow later directions for "From Route 30 East"...
From Pittsburgh or points west: PA Turnpike EAST to Breezewood. Get off at Breezewood Exit (I think it's 161, not sure), take first RIGHT ramp to Route 30 East (towards Gettysburg). Follow later directions for "From Route 30 East"...
From State College, Bellefonte, etc: It's faster (but less interesting and more miles) to drive I-99 to Bedford, pick up Route 30 East, and drive that way. A more scenic route is to take 26 South from State College and drive through the whistle-stop towns and countryside to the Everett Bypass, whereupon you take the "Towards Breezewood" option of Route 30 East. Either way, get on Route 30 East and drive until you get to Breezewood, Town of Motels.
FROM ROUTE 30 EAST: Follow this road out of Breezewood. (If you find yourself on a four-lane that splits and heads down a fairly long hill with cut red shale on both sides of the road, you are heading WEST on route 30. Please turn around immediately after the bridge and try again.) If you instead pass a Quality Inn on your LEFT while driving on a TWO LANE BLACKTOP ROAD, you are heading the correct direction. Good job!
Drive over the mountain and down the other side. At the bottom, before you start to go uphill again, there is an unmarked blue gravel dirt road off to your left. (The dirt road is directly opposite 915 South, a paved road that goes to the RIGHT.) TURN LEFT onto this DIRT ROAD. It goes slightly UPHILL and then underneath the PA Turnpike. Immediately through the underpass, bear LEFT.
You will be on a blue gravel road. Here, look at your odometer. Note mileage. DO NOT TURN BACK before your odometer says you have gone two miles from this point. Stay on what appears to be "the main road". Drive past the signs that say No Trespassing and No Outlet and Private Drive and so forth. They do not apply to you. Keep driving. You want to be looking for the very large green building that says Valley Hi on the front of it. It has a large, sweeping yard and a paved driveway. It will appear on your LEFT. Turn into the driveway, park, seek out other humans.
