Sep. 7th, 2009 09:26 pmHad a busy day with the horses today.
I met the farrier at 10 to do feet: Nick and the UBs. Trys also wanted her to do Wren, so she did Wren, too. The UBs did an okay job but they still get grain for foot trimming so it's not like they have much incentive to leave. After that, we had a trail ride over at Lynn's which was pretty good -- one of La's work friends (now works elsewhere, but La originally met her at the law firm) and the friend's kid (age 3) and husband (age unknown). The weather was nicely cool and the age-3 kid had a great time. The horses were well-behaved, too. After that, we rode home (I rode Nick at the ride but rode Lute, upon whom I enjoy picking, home from the ride) and had chicken gravy and waffles (yum) followed by a spot of jumping by Cass and Mariah (the horse). For the jumping practice, I rode Thyme up over the hill so that she could be a riding horse. She was OK with the riding but yowza, she's got absolutely no patience or ground manners. Evil morgan personality just shoulders me out of the way -- makes me so damn angry. I am not wired to get along with morgan horses but we need her to have a certain amount of handle on her so that we can make her a show horse for the kids. Cass thinks she likes Thyme. I'm not sure that affection will hold up over the duration, but at the current point, Thyme needs miles.
