Bright spot for this evening is that I am making red rice (basic recipe here. My version has 1-cup-rice (brown), 2 cans tomatoes, 4 medium cloves of garlic, black AND red pepper in the 1/4 (eyeballed) amount, and rather more than 1/8 teasp. of tabasco. You won't go wrong with the basic recipe, but I like my red rice hotter, wetter, and tomatoier than the stock recipe. Also, am using brown rice because it was either that or sushi rice. I don't have regular white rice in the house. Ever.)
Less-than-bright-spot for the evening: Tomorrow morning I get to crawl under that trailer and fix the t-intersection piece of shit Qwest pipe that is leaking like a very leaky thing. Argh. I really fucking hope they move. A lot. I have been trying to get this fucking trailer torn down (it's falling apart, is why) for the last six months or so. At this point we have not-renewed-their-lease for the end of January but then Dad told them, "Sure, they could stay another month" right before he left for Mexico so now I have them until the end of February.
I've already given them a brand-new water heater in February (theirs exploded and was spewing water all over the floor, which is one of the more common water heater deaths) and now they're fucking up my Saturday morning for pipe work underneath the trailer in twenty degrees and (invariably) mud because, yo, the pipes have been leaking. DO NOT WANT.
Anyway, if they refuse to leave at the end of February, I have to file on them and they get to stay there another forty days (AND I have to fix their fucking shit if it breaks while I'm busy trying to evict them from squatting in my piece-of-shit, should have been torn down six months ago trailer that is falling apart while I watch.) while the court fucks around getting its ducks in a row to make them leave. All of that, I might add, is at my fucking expense. I feel that not-renewing-their-lease turns them from tenants to squatters, but the local justice system does not agree with me. The local cops will not physically remove squatting trespassers for me, so, regardless of their status as tenants or squatters, I must evict them via the slow-but-exceeding-fine court system. Sux0r.

Date: 2008-02-16 08:16 pm (UTC)Also, they want a three-bedroom apartment. Three-bedroom apartments are not something we (or other landlords) have a lot of because three bedroom apartments are generally occupied by people with fifteen children and no money. Landlords do not want tenants with fifteen children and they do not want tenants with no money.

Date: 2008-02-17 05:12 am (UTC)Feel free to note that on the recipe. That's the sort of thing that we want to encourage. A canonical recipe is nice, but the footnotes give it the richness that we need. Otherwise, I'd just send everyone a copy of Joy.
