Aug. 16th, 2006 07:54 amSo I went up to Altoona last night to have dinner with
ladyivy. I met her at her hotel, which was the Hampton Inn visible from Plank Road, right next to Don Pablo's. I carried some luggage in for her. She checked into her room at the desk. The room was a king-size one bed affair.
They gave her two keys, didn't even ask or anything. I didn't discover this until we got to the room and Ives was like "They gave us two keys."
I had two thoughts on that...
1. See? People really do think I'm a lesbian.
2. Wow. Altoona is a lot more cosmopolitan than I thought it was.
Anyway, we had a nice dinner out followed by a field trip to the local Sheetz store primarily to put fuel in the rental car. While we were at Sheetz, we did in-store tourism. See, the Sheetz corporate headquarters is up there, so they pilot new things in Altoona. Frequently there are experimental and interesting things in their Altoona stores... things that, if successful, we'll get in Bedford in a year or two. Visiting the Altoona Sheetzes is like going to the future.
The future contains food-ordering screens out at the pump. That's kind of cool and it gets around the people who don't go into the store by tempting them out where they're fueling.
The future contains bulk M&M's in colors (like purple, cream, and teal) that I wasn't aware M&M's came in. They were sold in bulk, from a gravity fed dispenser into a plastic cup, kind of like the one for drinks. (They also sold nuts and candy corn and some other stuff, but the M&M's part of the display was really pretty.)
The future contains a very Starbucks-like coffee bar that has cappuchinos and stuff.
After that, we went to the mall where we discovered that the Waldenbooks did NOT have The Pirates in an Adventure With Ahab. Dang. I was looking forward to reading that gem out loud in the store. Stupid Waldenbooks. Instead, I bought some HnG (and I really wish amazon would just let me sign up for the whole series. It'd be so much easier) and a couple of novels of elf porn, soon to be reviewed here. Watch this space.
Then we went back to the hotel tohave hot lesbian sex hang out. At the end of the night Ivy called her husband (seen here as
electroweak). He complained that he wasn't invited to our hot lesbian sex. I generated a very lovely and innuendo-laden reply and he didn't laugh, just went all meta-textual on my ass. Way to break down the fourth wall, there, dude. *sigh* Great artists are never appreciated in their own time.
