Sep. 10th, 2004 08:53 amNow consider the tortise and the eagle.
Today, I'm taking a half-day off work so that I can drive to Virginia to see my very favorite living author. Now, I would very much like to have my all-time favorite book, the one I reread several times a year, signed by my favorite living author. (My favorite living author *is* the author of the book in question, else all of this would make a good deal less sense.) I didn't think that this was an unreasonable charge against my storehouse of karmic credit.
Apparently, I was wrong.
I own two copies of the all-time favorite book, one hardcover, one paperback. I can generally lay my hands upon either copy inside of fifteen seconds if I'm in my house. It's one of the few books I never misplace. Er. Except today. Except this morning. Except on the only day in my life when I *need* to be able to find the thing. Couldn't find either copy. Tore the house apart in the process.
*damn*
