As it's Spring in these parts, it's also time to update some slow moving projects.

I hate having to change computers, though this is like the bazillionth laptop I've had in the last umpty umpty years.

The previous laptop was made in 2020, so it was four-ish years old. I also have to get my pictures and shit off the old laptop. Research continues as to what I can do with that. (It still runs but it cannot get electric because reasons. It has *some* battery but not a huge amount.)

*headdesk*

So, while I was typing this, I noticed that New Computer also was not charging. Like, at all. Like "not plugged in, dipshit". Like "battery charge declining and everything is plugged in and now it's telling me about how many minutes it has left."

Now it was indeed plugged in. I am not quite that dumb.

But it was plugged into the power strip that has been firmly plugged in to the wall outlet in my house for the last... ever. Now, I kinda sorta kicked/tripped over the cord a few weeks ago in a way that made it less-than-firmly plugged in but still functional. But also I have two cats and they roll around on the floor and so eventually it unplugged itself enough to not work anymore in a providing power kind of way. Still looked plugged in, but not plugged in enough to provide power.

So while no laptops were charging, the root cause of that wasn't a laptop problem but a powerstrip-not-plugged-in problem. (It is not easy to see if the powerstrip is plugged in. Further, the power indicator light for the power strip burned out about ten years ago, and the wifi router runs off outlet power because sometimes I cycle the powerstrip accidentally and it takes the router forever to come back up.)

Turns out that I did a bad job troubleshooting the problem and got myself a brand new laptop (not a bleeding edge one, I'm not the sort of person who buys bleeding edge tech) to replace my not-broken four year old one. Because I am dumb.

Oopsie.

New laptop probably not necessary after all? Nice that I found that out after I formatted the hard drive and installed an alternative operating system and thereby made new laptop not returnable.

Oh, well.

On the upside, all the keys for it work (unlike old laptop, which is on its second keyboard. I am good at replacing laptop keyboard because I am not a housekeeper and cat hair is not good for laptop keyboards.) and it's miles faster. So that's nice. And I should have no trouble moving all my stuff since there isn't a battery/power supply issue to worry about.

With the somewhat better (if unpredictable) weather and the advent of Springtime, I've been getting more spins on the Bird. (Finn has been doing boring groundwork that is boring and honestly he's got it down pat, so we just review known material, sometimes in new places.) And I'm revisiting the Flying Lead Change.

What are you on about? )
