Trying too hard at my television again. Dexter takes apart a garbage disposal assembly in episode 4 of this season. When he removes the drain trap, he holds it level and then sets it down without any mess. The sink is a double-basin sink and each basin drain has a trap on it -- this isn't the way I'd do it, it isn't the way I usually see it done, but it's the way it's done, apparently, in Florida. Anyway. Dexter removes the drain trap from the outlet of the garbage disposal so that he can remove the disposal and look about inside of it. The problem here is that drain traps are Full Of Water. It's a feature of drain traps. Drain traps are SUPPOSED to have water in them because if they are empty of water, then sewer gases and smells rise up from the sewer line and upset the residents of the house. (Drain traps "trap" this gaseous yuck and prevent it from perfuming the living space in your house.) The drain trap that Dexter removes should be full of water as this drain trap is in an inhabited house. It is as dry as a bone.
Dexter is also shown removing the garbage disposal without the benefit of tools. He just uses his bare hands. I usually have to resort to tools and, in extreme cases, swearing. Dexter is a better plumber than I am.
Dear television: When depicting plumbing, please do not fuck it up. I will notice and it will upset me.
