While I promised to mail irises today, I actually dug them up and packed them today after work, so they'll not be mailed today. They will be mailed tomorrow. I hope they make it out there okay, [livejournal.com profile] ornery_chick, but I packed enough that even if they have to overwinter in the mountains and cannibalize the weaker members of their party, at least some of them should make it through. I expect you'll have extras. Please don't feel guilty if you don't have room for all of them.

Also, the black raspberries are ripening in my yard. I grow the cultivar Bristol, which is damn tasty and hardy in my winters. My brother Joe grows red raspberries, which his son adores and which I admire for their productivity and large, flavorful berries. I should probably get me some of those, but the Bristols are so well behaved, tidy, (I grow them on a trellis) and low-effort that I have trouble getting motivated to install more raspberries. The reds, at least from what they look like at Joe's house, are sturdy, not-very-manageable brambles that kind of do their own thing and would not consent readily to trellising... and that is part of what's keeping me from red raspberries. I bet I'd like 'em if I tried 'em, but for now, I have my Bristols and I am well pleased with them.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] gwangi's CD got here today and I am listening to it with enthusiasm, second time through -- the first run through made the packing of irises rather more bouncy and dance-ish than it would otherwise have been.

The thunder is rolling ominously outside -- I really hope we get some rain.
