Sorry I missed yesterday, but I went to Philly for a friend's baby shower and when I got home, I was too tired to do much of anything, including build a fire. I cranked the electric heat and went to bed. I have opted out of all of the life events that lead to showers, which is probably for the best. I'm not a shower sort of person. They're too girly for my tastes.

Guys don't have showers, so the guys in our group went and did guy things, lord only knows what. As with the Girls Weekend Out, the girls do girl things and the guys do guy things and I go to the girl thing and sort of wish I was at the guy thing, but that'd be all weird and stuff and then I wouldn't get to see the girl friends and the food's way better at the girl things and *sigh* this isn't very much different from the entire rest of my life, so what else is new?

Read me ramble on about knitting... )

I promised pictures of the hat. There is a picture of the hat, which is not yet done. It's ~171K so here's a link instead of an inline image. At the needles, each triangle section (there are four, making a pyramid that's open at the base) measures a little over 5". The reason the yarn looks so crimped is because that is what yarn looks like when you've knitted it up and had to rip it out because you fucked up refined your approach. The way I figure it, at this point I've got an approach that rivals Ivory Soap for purity.

Long time readers will note the lovely finish on the dining room table, covered here previously.

Also, in listening to music (what I've done all day long during the design and redesign of the hat project), I've been consideratin' what exactly is meant by Old Mexico, a place referred to in songs like Meet Me in Laredo and Running Gun. (These are sort of western cowboy songs by Marty Robbins. We will not discuss how it is that I have a slew of this man's music on my hard drive, the fact that I'm word-perfect on every song, or the amount that this ups my dork quotient. It doesn't really matter. We're already dividing by zero on my dork quotient, which not only makes all of this dork discussion moot but also means that I'm enough of a dork to snigger if anyone says infinity plus one.) Anyway. Old Mexico. The way I figure it, back in the day, there was probably some confusion about New Mexico (the state) and regular Mexico (the country south of the Rio Grande). So, y'know, they called the country one Old Mexico to differentiate it from New Mexico.

I probably have too much free time.
