On the contrary, Mrs. Dursley acted like she didn't even have a sister. I'm not happy with how I dealt with 妹などいないというふりを but I don't know how I could have done it better. In this construction, we again see the という thing, but this time with the following noun ふり instead of our more usual のが. I'm not entirely sure what the difference is, since both classes of という construction serve to subordinate clause-type-things to other stuff. I suspect that というのが is for nominalizing the clause. Maybe という without the のが is for adverbial or adjectival purposes? Here, 妹などいないという modifies ふり in an adjectival sort of way. Or perhaps not. Maybe I just having it there hanging off the end of the sentence because I'm hoping like hell that nobody will notice I'm clueless. But more likely, it's there because I think it's adjectival on ふり. I'm annoyingly dull that way.
Also, here is a nice picture of a Calico Pennant Celithemis elisa that I took as it was emerging from nymph to imago this morning. Neat, isn't it? The brown husk is what it used to look like. The stringy white bits coming out of the brown husk are its old "lungs"... the nymph was aquatic. And here is what it will look like when it's done morphing and stuff. Man, I love my digital camera.
