As most of the studio audience is aware, the Superbowl, between Seattle and Pittsburgh, was this evening. Now, I don't much watch football because it's not really my cup of tea. However, I have family members who enjoy it and this *is* Pittsburgh Steelers territory, so I pretty much need to be informed on how the game went to avoid asking So, howzabout that local sports team? if it was a crushing defeat.

The Steelers won, 21 to 10, in a victory that looked a lot more impressive on the scoreboard than it did on the field for most of the game.

For almost the entire first half of the game, Pittsburgh could not move the ball effectively. They could not penetrate Seattle's defense to pressure their fucking quarterback, who barely had to scramble as he leisurely perused the downfield receivers for someone open to catching the ball. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh's guy, whose name barely fits on his jersey and which I've no hope of spelling, was not finding receivers well because he was running around behind the line of scrimmage trying to be not-tackled by the large men in Seahawks uniforms. It was depressing and the Pittsburgh TD achieved was a pretty lame wiggle-it-over-the-line affair by the unspellable quarterback, who apparently also tackles in his spare time. (They showed that clip from the Colts playoff game, is how I know...)

While we (I watched the game with SJ) remained hopeful, our estimate at halftime, was that Pittsburgh had to start moving the ball effectively and they had to do something to shut down Seattle's short passing game in order to win.

In the second half, Pittsburgh's Parker ran the ball umpty-hell yards for a TD, which was a Superbowl record. Shortly thereafter, Seattle's Herndon picked off a Pittsburg pass and ran it back umpty-hell yards, which was *also* a Superbowl record. And Pittsburgh started to come together a bit. They made yardage. There were first downs. They gave the ball to Randale El, who apparently used to be a quarterback and he threw it right nicely to Mr. Ward for a TD. I didn't know you were allowed to do that sort of thing, but then I'm not a student of the game.

The rest of the game was sort of moving the ball slowly and waiting for the clock to run out.

There were two ads that we liked, both for beer. The first one was the magic beer fridge. Lovely. The other was the Bud horse commercial with the two grown up horses pushing the wagon from behind. That was just too damn cute. We did not like the fashion-show Escalade commercial. It was ugly. So's the car. Also, they showed an ad for the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which is due out this summer. Damn, that Mr. Depp is just so pretty!

At halftime, some of the words, notably the come in "You make a dead man come" from Start Me Up, were missing. That rather pissed me off.
