Dec. 10th, 2005 07:11 pmHowdy from the hospital, which has standing up only internet access. Typing while standing is rather more difficult than it appears, particularly with a fucking IV needle in my left hand (it's not attached to anything but they don't have an order to remove the needle so there it stays) which restricts my range of motion and screws up my typing.
So. How am I? I'm not dead yet. Surgery went reasonably well though I'm reasonably certain I'm unable to answer nurse and doctor questions to their satisfaction. First question I was unable to answer: So, how is your pain? (I don't know. I'm not in agony or anything. It's unpleasant but not more than I'd expect for a six inch hole in my belly.) Second question I was unable to answer: Every time we cut you, you bled. Is that normal for you? (Gee, I dunno. I've not made a habit of cutting parts out of my insides.)
I'm still here and will probably still be here through at least Sunday. The food is somewhat better than expected and the morphine pump was a lot of fun. They took it away yesterday, though. I've been watching a lot of food network television. Gingerbread championships. Who knew?
More tomorrow if I feel up to it.

Date: 2005-12-11 01:10 am (UTC)And Internet access too. Dang.
It sounds like you're recovering very quickly, especially if they're thinking of letting you go Sunday. I'm very happy to hear it.

Date: 2005-12-11 10:39 am (UTC)The internet access means "go down to the main lobby and, while standing, use a kiosk." There are not chairs.
I am recovering as well as can be expected, though I don't see any possible way for six inches of metal staples (holding the wound shut) to look "good". The doc sees things differently, says it all looks swell.

tell him you'll be happier when the swelling's gone down. there's nothing the hospital can do to you that a pithy line from a marx brothers movie or tank girl can't fix.
the internet setup seems kinda counterintuitive, tho.

Date: 2005-12-11 06:01 pm (UTC)The reason that there are no chairs for the internet is because you are not supposed to sit there and surf for porn. There is a sign that says "please limit your use to 15 minutes if others are waiting" -- I believe that the lack o' chairs helps to enforce the prohibition on camping.
Anyway, staples out, I get to go home at 3 PM, will update in more detail at that time. Doc has offered to email me digital pictures taken in surgery. I will probably get them at the 1-week post op visit.

i think that it's unreasonable for them to not equip all hospital beds with internet.

I shall inform Cybermat, who was worried, that you will survive.

Date: 2005-12-12 05:31 am (UTC)It sounds like the doctors ask some really weird questions. I'd expect that bleeding when cut was a pretty normal thing. Huh. Who knows?
